BEL AIR, MD (5/10/07) — Karen Barbour, president, The Barbour Group joined Deputy Secretary Herbert Jordan, the Governor's Office of Minority Affairs (OMA) and Russell Teter, Director, Hartford County Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to conduct a SBDC-organized bonding seminar.

The purpose of the seminar was to show minority business enterprise (MBE) how to increase their ability to obtain surety bonding and win publicly funded contracts in Maryland.

Participants discussed a broad range of issues, including background information on MBE contracting opportunities in Maryland, an introduction to House Bill 169 — Maryland’s new individual surety law, and proven techniques for qualifying for surety bonds.

Participants remarked that the seminar broadened their understanding of bonding and the practical steps that can be taken to obtain bonding needed to win publicly funded contracts in Maryland.

Deputy Secretary Jordan, OMA said, “This was one of the best bonding presentations I have ever seen. This kind of training offers something of value to any business that needs bonding to take their business to the next level.”
