WESTMINSTER, MD (5/17/06) — The Maryland Department of Transportation’s Minority Business Enterprise (MDOT/MBE) program has certified The Barbour Group, LLC (TBG) as an MBE.

This certification entitles TBG to provide Surety Bonding and Property and Casualty Insurance as an MBE with MDOT, and other Maryland State Agencies.

“This certification provides our clients with a new vehicle for achieving MBE participation on publicly funded contracts,” says Karen Barbour, president, TBG. “Premiums paid to TBG for surety bonds and/or commercial insurance can now be counted toward a prime contractor’s small business participation percentage.”

TBG will also utilize the MBE certification to enhance its’ ability to compete as a prime contractor for property and casualty insurance solicitations let by various state agencies.

Founded in 2002, The Barbour Group is a leading independent insurance agency specializing in construction bonds and commercial property and casualty insurance. The Barbour Group services the bonding and commercial insurance needs of clients throughout the Midwest, Northeast and Southeast US. Recognized by surety companies as one of the most knowledgeable brokers specializing in surety bonds, the company provides access to leading surety markets and insurance markets to service domestic projects.
